Don't be a victim - Summer crime prevention advice

🔔 Summer Crime Prevention Advice

As we move into the summer months, we often see an increase in opportunistic burglaries, particularly when people are out enjoying the warmer weather or away on holiday.

Please take a few simple steps to help protect your home and belongings:

🏡 Secure your property

Always lock doors and windows, even when you are at home or in the garden.

Don’t leave keys in locks or within easy reach (e.g. near letterboxes).

🌿 Keep gardens secure

Ensure gates and fences are secure.

Lock away tools, ladders and bicycles – these can be used by offenders to gain access.

🚗 Be mindful of valuables

Don’t leave items such as handbags, car keys, or devices on display.

Keep car keys out of sight and away from doors/windows.

💡 Make your home look occupied

Use timer switches for lights if you’re out in the evening or on holiday.

Ask a trusted neighbour to collect post or move bins.

👀 Stay alert and report concerns

Look out for unfamiliar people or vehicles acting suspiciously in your area.

Report any suspicious activity to police via 101, or 999 in an emergency.

🤝 Work together

Speak with neighbours and keep an eye out for each other’s properties.

Consider joining or staying active in your Neighbourhood.
